Foo Fighters album Wasting Light

The Foo Fighters seventh studio album Wasting Light (amazon) (itunes) is another classic example of how consistent they are as a band.  Most other acts wash out, break up, fight, die, or lose their artistic vision over 15 years.  Not so with the Foo Fighters.  Their latest effort finds them again in comfortable territory; somehow straddling the line between acoustic feel good vibes and slashing mad pure rock.  Whichever side of the FF coin you prefer you’ll find plenty of both to satisfy your craving on Wasting Light.

Like, OMG, Gossip Girl

Ok, this might not be fair, but I do think that this is the best thing Josh Schwartz has done since season two of The OC ended. Let’s face it, the last seasonish of The OC totally sucked. So tonight, on The CW, his next series premiered. Rumour has it that at first Gossip Girl was targeted as a feature film starring Lindsey Lohan, but after that all blew over [or rehabbed over, respect], the idea was given to Josh Scwartz to develop as a television series.

For those of you who missed it here’s the basic formula of the pilot. A bunch of good looking actors and actresses try desperately to convince you they’re in high school while looking approximately twenty three. They don’t succeed at this attempt, at all, but they do suck you into another never ending storyline filled with mysterious histories, more high school drama than all the current high schoolers in Manhattan put together, and quite a bit of innuendo and outright sex. So basically think it’s The OC, set in New York, with a certain clairvoyant Gossip Girl web personality narrating it all [watch out Morgan Freeman, this kid has got talent]. As hard as that might be to stomach [almost as hard as realizing that Hype has yet to figure out what’s up with my site] by the end of the pilot episode I had decided, “yeah, I’ll watch that.”

Gossip GirlBesides, true to the early OC formula, they have a pretty killer soundtrack. It must be nice to have Alexandra Patsavas of Chop Shop Music as your musical coordinator. The only thing missing now is a segment of their official web site devoted entirely to what band and what song played in each episode. I’m sure that’ll happen soon.Anyone know what song that was played at the end? It sounded to me like a new track from Blink 182. Could it be? I know they were alleging a reunion album and tour either 2008 or 2009. But anyway, enough of that. Here’s some music to have fun with. I love their new album by the way, but I won’t spoil anything here with leaked tracks. Enjoy some older stuff they’ve done. Literally everything the Foo Fighters touch is wonderful.

Foo Fighters

Well, the Foo Fighters never seem to disappoint. I’ve heard it said that they are one of the most consistent rock bands currently out there and I would have to agree. Each and every album they turn out seems to be a pure and wonderful rock album. And, to be honest, we don’t get those very much anymore. Even the venerable RHCP seem to dabble a bit much in psychedelic funk to be called simply a rock band.

The Foo Fighters do have a new album coming September 25, available for preorder now, and I’m going to go ahead and say that it will be the best rock album of 2007. There, I said it, and there’s no going back now. And seriously, just check out the below video for the song The Pretender, and you’ll have to agree; Dave Grohl and company are genius.

The second track listed here is taken from the Foos recent performance on Radio 1 over yonder in Britain. They played a smashing set and are quite amazing on this cover of Arcade Fire.

EA Mix vol 09 – Leftovers

Leftovers are all that is still good to eat, but wasn’t quite good enough to cram down your throat at the first meal. I’m not saying that aren’t quite delectable, they’re just not what you put on your plate the first time. Well, unless you come from a big family where everything is made, bought, packaged, and stored in bulk.
